Initially launched in 2016, the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B takes a leap from the capabilities of its predecessor, the Raspberry Pi 2. Thanks to the thought-out hardware designs and the new 64-bit Quad-Core ARMv8 processor with its four cortex-A53 cores that can be clocked at 1.3GHz.

Similar to previous Raspberry Pi Boards, the Pi 3 Model B has four USB 2.0 ports, a 10/100 Ethernet port, a full-sized HDMI port, a 3.5mm audio/composite video output port, and a MicroSD card slot. The VideoCore IV graphics chipset that was in the Pi 2 remains in the Pi 3 Model B. The standard 40 Pin Raspberry Pi GPIO remains on the Pi 3. This allows you to connect a plethora of external devices, shields, and other electronic components. A camera serial interface and DSI are also included to allow you to connect the Raspberry Pi Camera Module or the Raspberry Pi Touchscreen display. Conveniently the ribbon connectors on these components can easily hook onto the GPIO pins.

The processor upgrade the Pi 3 Model B was given boosts its performance to higher levels than ever before. Hashing Benchmark tests indicated that the Raspberry Pi Model B performs up to 25% faster than the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B and even faster than the original Raspberry Pi Model B.

The Quad-Core 1.2GHz ARMv8 processor contributes to the Pi 3’s ability to provide a much smoother and familiar desktop experience even with multiple tabs open. That said it is not the best machine for heavy-duty multitasking.

The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B clearly has several great features, updates, and advantages, especially when you factor in how cost-effective it is. The upgraded processer improves the performance significantly and the integrated wireless networking features save you a lot of unnecessary hassle. One disadvantage the Pi 3 Model B might have is that it is still a bit more power-hungry compared to previous Pi models but when you purchase the Vilros Raspberry Pi 3 Kit you get an official and good quality power supply that will help with such issues.

All-in-all, the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B is a good purchase for experience tinkerers and beginners alike. The Vilros Raspberry kit includes several components that you would have to buy separately, were you to buy a standalone Pi board, the Vilros package saves you time looking for an official, supported power supply, quality protective case, and a few other items. All while keeping the price of the kit reasonable.
